. Friday, July 30th IMU presents COCAINE MOUSTACHE w/ BLACK WIZARD, HUGENELK & BALLISTA @ The Biltmore Cabaret, 395 Kingsway . Doors 8pm / Purchase $10 advance tickets directly online HERE . Cover $12 @ The door

COCAINE MOUSTACHE - Showcasing a wide mixture of styles, Cocaine Moustache sounds like the dysfunctional love child of Black Sabbath and The Allman Brothers with a little ZZ Top and James Brown mixed in for the hell of it. Formed in 2009, the band features members from many of Vancouver's top local metal/punk outfits including Zuckuss, Mecha Messiah, Tyrants Blood, Tendonitis and Mechanism.

BLACK WIZARD - Vancouver's best new metal band is melting faces with their huge psychedelic riffs and even bigger harmonies, wielding the power of intense old-school metal. Featuring former members of Sprëadeagle, Onslaught and Whyte Hott, they have all the obligatory guitar shredding, vocal yowling and percussion pounding needed to get the blood flowing.

HUGENELK play riffs and drums and put words over it too - that's crazy!

IMU presents ELEPHANT TRAIN Tour Kick-Off Party w/ The UNKNOWN CULPRITS, The INTRUDERS & THE MILK PIPES @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $12 @ the door

ELEPHANT TRAIN has been around for nearly two years, gaining a respectable following by playing shows throughout Vancouver. Their sound touches on a wide variety of genres and styles, combining funky licks that make the girls cry with a solid, lickity-split havoc that brings out the boogie in people. Quickly gathering speed with a new album of studio recordings, Elephant Train delivers a strong, enthusiastic live show full of funky, original rock.

The UNKNOWN CULPRITS are a Toronto-based power grunge trio with jazz and blues leanings who are quickly building a growing fanbase all across Canada with their uniquely fresh sound and explosive live shows. With incredible instrumental skill and powerful, yet melodic vocals, the Culprits' high-energy performances and catchy hooks constantly win over even the most diverse crowds.

The MILK PIPES always drop the hammer on their original tunes with a joyful and reckless abandon. Three years, over 50 shows on, and with a new album almost in the can, The Pipes are having the kind of good time that can only come from within. They are a band of brothers who always share their beer... until it's the last one, then it's war. You'll hear them coming so stomp your feet or get the hell out of the way.

The INTRUDERS are a rock and roll band. They dig Delta & Chicago blues, 60s garage rock, southern rock, British Invasion, acid-rock and early punk. After a summer of writing, touring, and playing festivals around the interior, they moved to Vancouver and have just finished recording their new LP 'Half Cut' at The Farm Studios. The Intruders are geared up for bringing some real rock and roll to Vancity in 2010!

. Friday, August 20th IMU presents KILL MATILDA CD & Video Release Tour Kick-Off Farewell Party & INNERTWYNE CD Release w/ GLORYWHORE & MONIKER @ The Shark Club, 180 West Georgia Street . Doors 8pm / Cover $10 advance . $12 @ the door

KILL MATILDA pours a high-energy, adrenaline-infused shot of thrashing guitar riffs, pounding rhythm, intelligent lyrics and snarling-to-sweet vocal melodies. With hints of punk and metal, this tough as nails band has blown out the eardrums of audiences from UBC to East Hastings, summoning the ghosts of grunge and dynamic grrl-rock.

INNERTWYNE's combination of South American folk, rock and classical music infused with metal and punk combusts into a powerful and incendiary rock show that is at once captivating and ass-kicking. With two albums already under their belt, the band is currently supporting their third most recent release.

GLORYWHORE expoits the beauty in sleaze by abducting the edgier elements of glam, metal, powerpop and New York punk and pummelling them into submission. Initially formed as a side project of Vancouver blues punks The Cryptos, they've quickly gained a reputation as a tight, high energy live act fronted by fiery suicide girl Maiwan.

MONIKER blends the heavy riff-based structure of metal with the dirty chordal grandeur of grunge. With bombastic drums, thunderous bass tones, heavy rhythms, blistering leads and epic, clearcutting vocals, ear plugs are only a suggestion.

. Saturday, August 21st IMU presents STONE COLD CRAZY Queen Tribute w/ TROPHY WIFE, SOL 3 & NUKEM NICE @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $12 @ the door

STONE COLD CRAZY was formed by happy accident in August 2008 when UBC's Ubyssey newspaper requested the formation of a Queen tribute for their 90-year anniversary. The guys had so much fun dressing up and rocking out in character that they've decided to take their love of Queen off-campus and into the hearts and minds of Vancouver's 70s-centric rock fans!

SOL 3 - These former heavyweights of Edmonton’s indie music scene have relocated to Vancouver with their brand of well-crafted, hook-driven melodic guitar rock. Influenced by the great bands from every era in rock history including the Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Pixies, SOL 3 have evolved to create their own distinct and unique approach with a fresh and relevant sound for the modern age.

TROPHY WIFE put the mental back in instrumental, combining blistering riffs, funky bass and rhythmic beats into an intensely contagious blend that has hooked fans at venues throughout Vancouver. It's hard to pin down their mix of rock, funk, metal and blues, but they've steadily made believers out of legions of people who simply didn't know they would like an instrumental act until they heard Trophy Wife. Foregoing a singer and the desire to be conventional or mainstream, Trophy Wife steals all the glory for themselves by dazzling ears, pleasing eyes, moving asses, melting faces and doing other unmentionable things to every other body part you can think of!

NUKEM NICE is a hard-working four piece original rock band. Their style can be described as a blend of classic rhythm n' blues mixed with modern hard rock. Each band member's distinctive styles combine to create a truly unique sound. The band's overall purpose is to deliver a pure musical experience and to perform raw, high-energy live shows.

. Friday, September 3rd IMU presents DRIVE Cars Tribute w/ CRAZY DIAMONDS Pink Floyd Tribute & The BLUE BUS @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $12 @ the door

DRIVE
- Vancouver's own tribute to The Cars pays homage to one of the most successful American bands to ever emerge from the late '70s New Wave era. The Cars' uncanny timing and unusually sleek style created a contagious, irresistable and distinctive sound with elements of early rock ‘n’ roll, the British Invasion, art rock and punk. With a catalog of songs that still enjoy immediate recognition nearly three decades later, DRIVE delivers tight, faithful renditions of The Cars' edgy streamlined sound with spot-on vocals, riffs and tempos for fans to groove along to!

CRAZY DIAMONDS
- In the 12 months they've been together, Vancouver's one and only Pink Floyd tribute act has already built up a sizable following playing clubs like The Media Club, Railway Club and Backstage Lounge. These musicians are serious about honoring the music of Pink Floyd and delivering a powerful live show that presents the best of their mindblowing, psychedelic music.

. Saturday, September 4th IMU presents MENDOZZA, CRIMSON ROOTS, WE HUNT BUFFALO & guests @ The Fairview Pub, 898 West Broadway . Doors 8pm / Cover $10 online HERE and @ the door

MENDOZZA - With a thunderous bellow, three shadowy figures emerge from the smoky depths of Vancouver: the throaty Deuce on guitar and vocals, tattooed drumming beauty Bina and the heavy handed The Judge on bass. Having shared stages with the likes of 3 Inches of Blood, Jucifer and Pride Tiger, they've come to deliver their latest creation "White Rhino", and this time they've perfected their bastard strain in conspiracy with producer/engineer Rob Shallcross (Gwar, Strapping Young Lad, Jaw). Mixed by the legendary Billy Anderson (Melvins, High On Fire), the album's array of thunder, grit and earthy tones slam into the earth like a screaming pink belly in the desert sun.

CRIMSON ROOTS
-- This is the dawning of a great age, one where man and metal can live as one with rock as their foundation. Deep in this time was birthed a band. In the dying moments of '07, a young man entered a basement lair that would make the average man tremble. Hit by the soulful cry of a gleaming, radiant guitar and taken over by a driving, powerful beat, he plugged in his bass guitar with pure euphoria and screamed with all the love and hate within him. Showcasing an original blend of east coast hard party music and west coast psychedelia, three warriors pillaged the vaults of creativity within their minds, their intense passionate musical voyage spawned the heavy, groove-rockin juggernaut that is Crimson Roots.

ANALOG BELL SERVICE
- 5 Guys. 2 Brothers. 2 Atlantic Canadians. 1 Californian. They came together because of a rehearsal space in Chinatown that could only be accessed by ringing a bell on a string. Substance influenced jams were recorded and eventually chiseled into songs. The songs were arranged into a set and played at the legendary 524 Main St parties and the band was born.

. Saturday, September 11th IMU presents The MATINÉE, WALTER DANDY & The DUSTY SEEDS, PETE WERNER & REDBIRD @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $12 @ the door

The MATINÉE
is emerging as one of the West Coast's premier independent bands. Blending a passion for fine ale and finely crafted tunes, they offer a unique spin on a roots rock sound that is quickly attracting both national and international audiences. Writing songs that paint pictures of empty bottles and broken hearts, broken bottles and empty hearts, their collection of songs vividly comes to life. As they continue with their hard-nosed, DIY, blue collar work ethic, there is little doubt that this show is worth the price of admission.

WALTER DANDY & The DUSTY SEEDS
deliver a unique hybrid of folk, rock, western, swing and country, employing sweet skills on a banjo, a pedal steel, a few guitars, some harmonica and a little bit of organ.

PETE WERNER
- With a delivery as casual and warm as his songwriting is confident, Pete Werner's music is breathtakingly accomplished alt/country rock. Werner and his longtime friends Del Cowsill and Shane Wilson effortlessly mix sparkling sunshine pop with light and nimble country twang, occasionally embroidered by pedal steel, mandolin and Hammond organ on their 2009 release "Savage" which was recorded and mixed by Steven Drake.

REDBIRD pairs roots influences with an indie rock eagerness and a soulful delivery of insightful lyrics. After leading the local indie-pop group The Savannah Leigh Band for several years, life began to lead singer/songwriter Savannah Leigh Wellman in new directions. Redbird's upbeat and quirky alternative country folk is infused with Wellman's sweet and tender yet powerful and captivating voice.

th
IMU presents The SSRIS, GO GHETTO TIGER, The STRANGE MAGIC & D.B. BUXTON @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $12 @ the door

The SSRIS combine jittery exuberance, corkscrew rhythms and skittish melodies into a hyperactive blast of avant-garde experimental art punk. Built on a raging mass of spastic guitars, their infectious sound fuses jagged-glass pop and disorienting structural shifts with cockeyed jazz, tornados of ray-gun synth and nasal-whine vocals to induce sonic vertigo.

GO GHETTO TIGER delivers devastating synth riffs and irresistibly danceable beats with a live show that has been described as "unpredictable, always keeping you guessing about where it might turn next." Their eclectic blend of guitar, bass and synth interjects playful drum loops, samples and melodic vocals, combining into intelligent, sparkly, melodic grooves with inspired lyrics and tempo changes.

The STRANGE MAGIC
- Vancouver psychedelic collective The Strange Magic runs the gamut from sunkissed psych pop and juggernaut rock-outs to gossamer balladry and everything in between. Featuring members of The R.A.D.I.O., Panurge, The Awkward Stage and Blackout Lights, the band made its debut with a Japanese tour and has since shared the stage with such stellar acts as Os Mutantes, Pointed Sticks, Shonen Knife and Susan Jacks (Poppy Family).

D.B.BUXTON combines soulful vocals with a blisteringly intense performance style honed from years on the freezing streets of Edmonton. From mysteriously engaging synth/guitar pop and wistful ballads to ferocious one man bandism and baroquely-layered electro funk, think early Nick Cave and Van Morrison on a drug binge with Jack White and Rufus Wainwright.
