. Saturday, February 6th IMU presents MAD SHADOW, MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING Hendrix Tribute, The IRREVERENTS & The AFTERTASTE @ PUB 340, Cambie Street / Tix available directly via the bands or purchase advance tickets online HERE!

MAD SHADOW - Electric, charged and explosive, Mad Shadow features guitarist Danny Sveinson, who many have exclaimed will be one of the next great rock guitar legends. Bringing the thunder of heavy '70s rock into the new millennium, Mad Shadow leave crowds speechless with their style, energy and obvious talent. The combination of Danny's hook-laden riffs, singer Erik Olufson's charismatic, one-of-a-kind stage presence and the fist-pounding rhythms provided by bassist Tyler Lindgrin and drummer Josh McDonald never fail to leave the crowd wanting more. The depth of these rockers' ability to break out, sending Danny into blistering solos and jaw-dropping jams of their best known songs, is sure to drop you right in the middle of the rock and roll inferno that is Mad Shadow.

MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING Hendrix Tribute
- The pure musical genius of JIMI HENDRIX made him one of the most influential guitarists ever in modern music. Self-taught and left-handed, he played with a right-handed Fender Stratocaster turned upside down and restrung, and his use of the Strat's tremelo bar was one of the signature elements of his blues-influenced style of rock music. He perfected the deliberate use of distortion and feedback to complement his natural virtuoso ability, all the while exuding unequaled charisma, raw talent, and creativity to deliver some of the most revolutionary music of the 20th Century. Be sure to come out and take in the timeless music of Jimi Hendrix this special evening, as Midnight Lightning featuring MIKE ZYKE Of The Unknown Soldiers Doors Tribute, deliver their loving tribute to the raucous and anthemic Hendricx experience!

IRREVERENTS
- A lethal blend of contagious power-pop rock exploding with thunder, Irreverents' guitar, bass, and vocal prowess combine into a juggernaut that scored them a spot as a CFOX Seeds finalist. Combining energized power rock, hip hop influences and funky rhythms with a punk feel and maniacal urges, tha band has been burning up the Vancouver scene and has been favorably compared with System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Megadeth, Rush, and Motley Crue. The band endeavors to show their depth and strives to deliver their unique lethal blend live!

The AFTERTASTE - With a perfect blend of savage guitars, melody, scathing lyrics and fantastic 3-minute pop arrangements, The Aftertaste are four Vancouver musicians looking to leave modern rock shirtless, penniless and begging for more by the side of the road. Acid-soaked blues and high octane power pop are put through the grinder and spat out as demented tales of substance abuse, sexual deviancy and love gone seriously wrong. Stories of excess and schizophrenia somehow become irresistible singalongs when wrapped in the infectious riffs and melodies spun out by the foursome.

The SICKS - Voted Vancouver's 3rd Best Unsigned Band in the 2009 Georgia Straight Readers Choice Awards, The Sicks' distinct, memorable songs capture a simple, positive sound that makes audiences get up and move. Atila is Hungarian while his cousin Robert hails from just across the Serbian border. Their disagreements are the stuff of legend and high comedy. Rich's background is Polish and German, while Michael's grandparents were Russian Jews who ran from pitchfork-wielding neighbors.

LIMO WRECK

The Flairs rock the stage once again! After an extended hiatus, the band is coming together to rip the roof off and play one final show joined by rockin' bands Ready.Set.Die & Bang Bang, You're Dead!

The FLAIRS edgy, high energy pop-punk harkens back to the days of '70s punk and '80s hair metal, sweetly flavoured with honeyed vocals over frayed power chords and frenzied beats. Featuring former members of Tuuli and Bif Naked's band, the band skillfully blends youthful spirit and undeniable talent, unleashing an original sound on an unsuspecting public hungry for living, breathing, punk-coloured hard rock with smart pop sensibilities. In their heyday the band toured in the Far East and garnered opening spots with INXS. Now this talented hard-rocking quartet has come together again for a special ONE NIGHT ONLY renunion show that's gonna tear the roof off The Bourbon! Be there or you'll miss your only chance to see The Flairs perform together!

READY.SET.DIE

. Friday, March 5th IMU presents (or-gan'ik), MATTHEW MEI WITH YOU BRIGHT MINDS & DANIEL HUSGROVE @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $10 @ the door

(or-gan'ik) - Get ready for the (or-gan'ik) Revolution, 4 brothers who create mindblowingly clever, pure soulful music. Blending hip hop and R&B sounds with pop/rock songwriting sensibilities, (or-gan'ik) have taken the musical leads of classic acts like Sly Stone, Dr. Dre, Jimi Hendrix and Run DMC, tossed it into a blender, and created a sexy stylish fresh sound. Their high-energy live performances continually wow audiences and have them on their feet, their bodies grooving with primal urgency and infectious party vibes. The (or-gan'ik) Revolution has arrived!

MATTHEW MEI WITH YOU BRIGHT MINDS
- Having traveled the world as the son of a preacher man, Matt's initial introduction to the world of music was his dads classical, old blues and folk records, but it was his struggles in life and his soulful growth that fueled his desire to write emotional and heartfelt songs. Matt teamed up with Jonathan Anderson (Jonathan Inc.) at Buena Vista Studios to create a thoughtful album that showcased some of his favorite songs he had written over the years.

. Saturday, March 6th IMU presents MYSTERY POINT, BULLETS OVER BEAUTY, The SAINTS COLLAPSE & TIMOTHY @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 8pm / Cover $10 @ the door

MYSTERY POINT
is a four-piece rock band from White Rock, originally known as Long Story Short. With a mix of alternative, punk, pop, jazz, ska and acoustic, their versatile sound directly reflects their expansive scope of influences. Mystery Point transcends the limits of conventional music, mixing bits and pieces from their diverse backgrounds while offering their own unique sound that anyone can appreciate.

BULLETS OVER BEAUTY
- This powerhouse dark alt-rock combo is a combustible combination of modern rhythm-driven blues and rock influences. Formed as a means to fill a void by members of Painted Self, A Murder of Crows, CrankRiot and An Oracle, Bullets Over Beauty have continued into an obsession of musical camaraderie. Bringing emotive vocal stylings together with a powerful dual guitar assault to create a uniquely memorable musical experience, they will soothe you with angelic melodies before punishing you with malicious musical persistence.

The SAINTS COLLAPSE
- Originally writing and performing under the name This Week In History, this Vancouver-based rock outfit re-emerged as The Saints Collapse with a dark, film-inspired, genre-hopping EP, "The Seven Days of Fire". From guitarist Colin Pattullo's origins in shred-driven guitar rock to vocalist Jesse Castillo's pre-occupation with video game soundtracks and horror film scores, the band's chaotic range of influences is well represented as a euphonious whole. Offering material that strikes as eerily familiar while maintaining a unique sense of perspective, The Saints Collapse have delivered a rock record uninhibited by preconceived ideas of what rock music is supposed to be.

TIMOTHY
are four gentlemen from Coquitlam, a mountainous region favoured dearly by the clouds and dead to the sun, yet by all accounts unspurious in its claim to beauty. Being reared in such conditions they are given to both cheerfulness and melancholy, the latter overcome by the former, incandescing into the evening in a movement of sound mighty as an unbridled storm, watering the thirsting gardens of the human heart. For those of you in a semi-conscious slumber, allow us to introduce ourselves.

. Friday, March 19th IMU presents CRIMSON ROOTS CD Release Party w/ HUGENELK, RORSCHACH & guests @ PUB 340, Cambie Street / Tix available directly via the bands or purchase advance tickets online HERE!

CRIMSON ROOTS
- This is the dawning of a great age, one where man and metal can live as one with rock as their foundation. Deep in this time was birthed a band. In the dying moments of '07, a young man entered a basement lair that would make the average man tremble. Hit by the soulful cry of a gleaming, radiant guitar and taken over by a driving, powerful beat, he plugged in his bass guitar with pure euphoria and screamed with all the love and hate within him. As the three warriors pillaged the vaults of creativity within their minds, their intensely passionate musical voyage spawned a heavy, groove-rockin trio that has exploded onto the Vancouver scene with an unquenchable thirst!

HUGENELK
play riffs and drums and put words over it too - it's crazy!

RORSCHACH is to rock and roll as nuclear winter is to the planet Earth.

. Saturday, March 20th IMU presents The MATINÉE, The GASTOWN ROYALS, SOMETHING PAISLEY & DESERT RADIO @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 8pm / Cover $10 @ the door

The MATINÉE is emerging as one of the West Coast's premier independent bands. Blending a passion for fine ale and finely crafted tunes, they offer a unique spin on a roots rock sound that is quickly attracting both national and international audiences. Writing songs that paint pictures of empty bottles and broken hearts, broken bottles and empty hearts, their collection of songs vividly comes to life. As they continue with their hard-nosed, DIY, blue collar work ethic, there is little doubt that this show is worth the price of admission.

The GASTOWN ROYALS
- Some of Vancouver's hardest working & partying Bourbon Pub staff deliver straight up contagious alt-country with sweet ass vocals, mouth harp, banjo, ukulele, guitars and percussion. Some of the band's many interests and influences include whittling, spittoons, rocking chairs, straw hats, horse drawn carriages, Clint Eastwood, scrappin'n'cussin, cornbread, neckin' (with their best gals of course), barroom brawling, homemade jam, bathtub gin and everything olde timey!

DESERT RADIO's original combination of Americana, Classic & Southern Rock is the soundtrack of a road trip to Juarez in a '68 Dodge where Merle Haggard, The Who and Elvis Costello all play on the mix tape stuck in the dashboard deck. A few years ago, old friends were looking for an excuse to hang out, drink lots of beer and write some great, country-flavoured rock 'n' roll, and one thing led to another and they soon found themselves playing shows and recording tracks. "February Day" (from their recently released debut album) became the number one ranked Americana genre song in the history of garageband.com, leading to features on Budweiser.com as well as NASCAR's use of the track in a Speed Channel video tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. that was broadcast throughout North America.
